Elon Musk initiated his much-anticipated artificial intelligence venture, xAI, on Wednesday. The team comprises engineers from the same American tech companies that Musk aims to rival to create an alternative to ChatGPT.
For several months, Musk has been vocal about the potential of AI to cause "civilizational destruction." He has advocated for a pause in the development race by companies like Google and Microsoft to allow for the creation of regulatory measures for the industry.
The motivation behind the inception of xAI is "to comprehend the true essence of the universe," according to Musk. He is also a co-founder of OpenAI, but he eventually departed from the startup recognized for igniting the generative AI craze.
Dan Hendrycks, the director of the Center for AI Safety, a nonprofit organization dedicated to mitigating the risks associated with AI technology, will be an advisor to xAI.
