Mobile Printing on Copiers: AirPrint, Android & Cloud Explained

by Copier Liquidation Center on July 21, 2026

Your team doesn't just print from desktops anymore — they need to print from iPhones, iPads, Android devices, and laptops, sometimes without touching the office network at all. Modern office copiers support all of it, but the terminology (AirPrint, Mopria, cloud printing) can be confusing. Here's a plain-English guide to mobile printing on copiers and how to set it up.

Apple AirPrint

AirPrint is Apple's built-in printing technology for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. If a copier supports AirPrint, Apple devices on the same network can print to it with no driver or app to install — just tap Print and pick the machine. Most current commercial MFPs support AirPrint; it's the simplest option for Apple-heavy offices.

Android and Mopria

On the Android side, the equivalent is the Mopria print standard (and the Mopria Print Service, built into many Android phones). Like AirPrint, it lets Android devices print to a compatible copier over the network without fiddling with drivers. Manufacturers also offer their own mobile apps that add features like scanning straight to your phone.

Cloud printing

Cloud printing lets people print without being on the office network at all — handy for remote staff or a device on cellular. Depending on the machine, this can work through a manufacturer's cloud platform or a universal cloud-print service, routing the job to your copier over the internet. It's the most flexible option and the most setup-dependent.

What you need to use it

  • A copier that supports these features — most modern commercial MFPs do; some older or entry units may need a wireless/interface option added.
  • Network or Wi-Fi connectivity — the machine on your network, and devices able to reach it.
  • A few minutes of configuration — enabling AirPrint/Mopria and, for cloud, connecting the service.

Good news: much of this is software, so even a used machine can usually do it. (See what you can upgrade on a used copier if a unit needs a wireless option added.)

A quick setup checklist

  • Get the copier on your network with a stable IP address.
  • Enable AirPrint and Mopria in the machine's settings.
  • Install the vendor's mobile app if your team wants scan-to-phone.
  • Set up cloud printing if you have remote users.
  • Test from an iPhone and an Android device before rolling it out.

We configure network and mobile printing before a machine ships, so it's ready to print from phones and laptops on day one.

The bottom line

Printing from phones, tablets, and the cloud is standard on today's office copiers via AirPrint, Mopria/Android, and cloud services — mostly a matter of enabling features you already have.
