SC551 through SC584 cover the rest of the fusing assembly's temperature sensors — the edge thermopile/thermistor, the pressure roller thermistors (center, edge, and full-bleed-edge positions), plus a handful of related power and jam-detection codes. These are the companion codes to SC541–SC549, which cover the center fusing sleeve sensor specifically. Sourced from Ricoh's official service manual.
Same logic as the center-sensor codes, just for the edge thermopile/thermistor instead:
Worth knowing: if you're getting repeated SC557 or SC558 codes across multiple pieces of equipment in the same office, it may be worth having an electrician check the circuit your copier is plugged into rather than assuming the copier itself is at fault.
This is a completely different sensor than the fusing sleeve thermistor above — the pressure roller thermistor (TH3) measures temperature on the bottom roller rather than the heated top sleeve. The same four-part pattern repeats across three positions (center, edge, full-bleed-edge):
SC569-00 is the odd one out in this range — it's a paper exit/pressure release motor error rather than a temperature reading, triggered after the release operation fails three times in a row. Common causes: a disconnected pressure roller home-position sensor, or a worn pressure release encoder.
Like the center-sensor codes, the real cost driver here is whether it ends up being the fusing unit itself rather than just a sensor or connector. A replacement fuser typically runs $400 to $1,800 in parts, plus a technician's labor at around $350 per hour. You can check real current prices yourself — for example, a genuine 120V Ricoh MP C4504 fuser unit is currently listed at PrecisionRoller, a major parts retailer — and that's before labor to install it. On an older machine, that's worth comparing honestly against a low-meter replacement, especially if the fuser isn't the only part nearing end of life.
None of this is a DIY repair — it involves the fusing assembly, which runs hot and carries mains voltage internally.
Not sure which way to go? Text us a photo of your error screen and tell us your model — we'll give you an honest read on whether it's worth fixing, no obligation. And if it makes more sense to replace it, we carry low-meter, fully tested copiers at wholesale liquidation pricing with free delivery and installation throughout Southern California, often available the same week.
