Choose an 11×17-capable copier if your office needs tabloid-size output. If your work stays within letter and legal paper, a compact model may be sufficient. Match the machine to your actual paper sizes, monthly workload, scanning needs and available space.
A4 and A3 are international paper sizes: A4 is 210 × 297 mm and A3 is 297 × 420 mm. In copier shopping, the terms also describe compact and larger-format machine classes. They are not exact equivalents of US letter and tabloid sizes. Check a model's supported paper list for the US sizes you need.
A compact A4-class office copier typically handles letter-size documents, and many support legal size. A larger A3-class copier often supports 11×17 tabloid output. Some also support 12×18 or SRA3, but those capabilities depend on the model and feed tray.
An A4-only machine cannot print an 11×17 sheet. A paper-tray accessory does not expand the print engine's maximum paper width. If tabloid printing is required, select a machine whose specifications explicitly list 11×17.
Paper size is only one requirement. Booklet stapling, folding and other finishing may require optional equipment. Confirm installed accessories before ordering.
For compact everyday color work, compare the Ricoh IM C300, listed at $1,395 when checked on October 5, 2026. For tabloid-size color printing, compare the Ricoh IM C2500, listed at $1,750, and confirm the exact configuration. Ricoh's paper-size recommendations cover the IM C2500 family.
The larger Ricoh IM C3000 was listed at $2,495 on the same date. These are machine-price examples, not delivered quotes. Current stock, tax, accessories, delivery and setup affect your final cost.

No. Compare the recommended workload for the exact models rather than using chassis size or maximum duty cycle alone. Maximum monthly volume is not the same as a recommended everyday workload, and neither figure tells you the used machine's lifetime meter reading.
Collect your typical monthly printing volume, busiest day's workload and scanning requirements. Use our office users and print-volume guide to organize the comparison.
Measure the intended location and delivery route, including doors, stairs and elevators. Allow room to open trays and clear jams; a machine's listed dimensions may exclude accessories and operating clearance. Confirm furniture suitability for a desktop copier and the delivery and setup arrangements for either size.
Paper size alone does not establish media compatibility. Check weight, coating, tray and duplex limits, and request a sample using your actual paper. Our brochure and cardstock guide explains the questions to ask.
List your largest paper size, monthly color and black-and-white volume, scanning workflow, finishing requirements, budget and ZIP code. Request the available unit's meter reading and included accessories, then compare the delivered quote with the written warranty terms.
