Yes, we come to you. We deliver the copier ourselves, a certified Ricoh technician installs it and sets it up on your network, and we train your staff before we leave. Very few sellers will make that drive — which is precisely why it's worth something up here.
The copier is delivered, installed and running in your office before any money changes hands. If it isn't the machine for you, we take it away at no charge.
In 40 years, we have never had to take a copier back.
Every region has its own copier problem. Inland it's heat. On the North Coast it's moisture, and it causes issues that look like machine faults but aren't.
Paper is hygroscopic — it absorbs water from the air. In persistent coastal humidity, an open ream sitting in a storeroom takes on moisture, and damp paper curls, misfeeds, jams at the registration rollers, and fuses less cleanly, which shows up as toner that scuffs or lifts off the page. Offices spend real money chasing this as a hardware fault when the fix is how the paper is stored.
What actually works, and you're welcome to it whether you buy from us or not: keep paper in its sealed ream until the moment you load it, store it in the same conditioned room as the copier so it acclimatises, don't leave a half-used ream open in the tray overnight in damp weather, and if a machine has sat cold over a weekend, give it time to come up to room temperature before running a big job. On buildings near the water, a dehumidifier in the copier room pays for itself.
We go through all of this on install day. It's the sort of thing you only learn from opening machines up for forty years, and it prevents a large share of the service calls on this coast.
Humboldt and Del Norte counties are a long way from any copier dealer. That's the reason a lot of offices up here end up with whatever a national supplier will freight them, and then live with it.
Two things we do are aimed at exactly that problem.
The machine has to earn its place before it ever leaves our warehouse. We read every used copier's own service history — total counter, jam history by location, fault log, maintenance counters, parts already replaced — and pass on anything with a repeating fault pattern no matter how low the meter reads. Then it goes out on current firmware, which eliminates a category of scanning and network problems that masquerade as hardware failures. When the customer is five hours from the nearest technician, that selectivity isn't fussiness, it's the whole job.
Your staff learn to handle the routine things. Clearing jams cleanly, changing toner and waste toner, keeping the glass and feed rollers clean, reading the panel when a code appears, and knowing which problems are a two-minute fix. An office that isn't waiting on a technician for the small stuff is a much happier office at this distance.
And you can call us. Most copier questions are answerable over the phone, and our Ricoh SC error code library is free and public for the same reason.
County and municipal offices in Eureka, Crescent City and Ukiah run heavy records scanning and steady monochrome volume, with finishing that matters because documents get filed and bound. Predictable volume like that is the classic case for buying outright rather than carrying a five-year lease.
Healthcare and education — the hospitals, clinics and the Arcata and Eureka campuses — need dependable duplexing document feeders and properly configured scan-to-folder more than they need speed.
Timber, fishing and the trades across Humboldt, Del Norte and Mendocino generate work orders, invoices, permits and compliance paperwork. Durable monochrome, simple to run, easy to keep going.
Tourism and hospitality along the coast and the redwood corridor produce customer-facing colour — menus, maps, activity guides, seasonal material — where colour consistency and heavier stock handling are worth specifying up front.
Wineries and growers around Ukiah and inland Mendocino sit somewhere between the two: compliance paperwork in volume, plus tasting-room material that needs to look right.
Henry has been a Ricoh technician for 40 years. Setup means network addressing, scan-to-email or scan-to-folder with the right permissions, drivers on the workstations that need them, address book and user codes, finisher calibration, and image density and registration checked on your actual paper. Getting that right on the day is what determines whether the machine simply works from then on.
Ricoh first — selling Ricoh, Xerox and Lanier since 1991 — plus Canon, Kyocera, Sharp and Konica Minolta as we source them. Savin, Gestetner and Lanier are rebadged Ricoh engines, so parts and service match Ricoh, which keeps consumables and parts easy to source even out here.
New to the Ricoh name? Our guide to choosing between the major brands explains where each fits, and the technician's checklist covers judging any used machine.
We also cover the North Bay and Wine Country, Chico, Redding and the far north, and Greater Sacramento. See all Northern California regions.
