This region has a copier problem you won't read about in a brochure, and it catches people out every winter.
When a machine that has been sitting cold — in an unheated room, a vacation-rental office closed for a week, or fresh off a truck in Truckee in January — is brought into a warm room and switched straight on, moisture condenses inside it. It forms on the optics, on the drum, and on the transfer surfaces. Run a job on it in that state and you get streaking, blank patches, ghosting and misfeeds, and the natural assumption is that the machine is faulty.
It usually isn't. It needs to sit and come up to room temperature before it's powered up — an hour or two, longer if the temperature difference is big. This is genuinely one of the most common avoidable service calls at altitude.
Two related points for offices up here: rooms that get cold overnight and warm quickly in the morning cause the same problem on a smaller scale every day, so a copier in a consistently heated space will simply last longer. And dry winter air makes paper hold static, which produces double-feeds — fanning the stack before loading genuinely helps.

Delivering a 300-pound machine to Truckee or South Lake Tahoe in February is a different job from delivering one to a business park in Roseville, and we plan it with you rather than turning up and hoping.
What helps us: knowing whether the approach is plowed, whether there's a step or a deck to negotiate, whether the office is upstairs, and roughly how the weather is looking that week. If conditions are genuinely bad we'll reschedule rather than risk the machine or your doorway. Foothill towns — Auburn, Grass Valley, Placerville, Sonora — are usually straightforward year-round, with the usual caveat about historic downtown buildings and upstairs offices.

Auburn, Nevada City, Placerville, Jackson and Sonora are the administrative centres for their counties — heavy records scanning, steady monochrome volume, and finishing that matters because documents get filed. That predictable pattern is the classic case for buying outright rather than leasing.
Tourism, lodging and property management around Tahoe and Truckee produce customer-facing colour in seasonal bursts — guest information, activity guides, rental packets, event material — plus a great deal of routine paperwork. Two things follow: colour consistency and heavier stock handling are worth specifying, and the machine should be rated for your peak season rather than your annual average.
Professional offices — legal, real estate, insurance, medical and dental across the foothills — run steady modest volume with heavy scanning, which suits a mid-range machine bought outright.
Construction and trades throughout the foothills need durable, simple machines producing permits, plans, work orders and invoices, often at 11x17.
